Build a Better Breakfast

You are probably tired of hearing the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” But there is truth to the statement! Research has shown that students who eat breakfast have more energy, increased concentration, improved academic performance and better weight maintenance.

What’s Stopping You?

If we know breakfast is so important, why is it so hard to fit into our morning routine? For starters, you may be facing challenges on campus that might put eating breakfast low on your priority list. From finalizing your class schedule to joining clubs to balancing a job with schoolwork, college can be overwhelming.

What Can You Do?

Try incorporating foods from three or more food groups. My favorite is oatmeal with fresh berries and walnuts.

By incorporating different food groups, you will be sure to get the nutrients you need. It also takes the body longer to digest which helps keep you feeling fuller longer and energized throughout the morning! An added bonus; when you start your day with breakfast it can be easier to make healthier choices throughout the day.

The next time you are eating on campus, try one of these healthy breakfast staples:

  • Oatmeal with Fruit and Nuts
  • Hardboiled Egg, Whole Wheat Toast with Peanut Butter and an Orange 
  • Breakfast Parfait with Plain Greek Yogurt, Fresh Fruit and Whole Grain Cereal
